Our Approach to Sustainability
We think the things we make — and the games we gather around — should be around for a long time. That means thinking carefully about how our shirts are made, how much we produce, and the partners we choose to work with.
BoardGamingTees uses a print-on-demand model. We don't order hundreds of shirts hoping they'll eventually find homes. A shirt is printed when someone orders it, then shipped directly to the customer. That helps us avoid excess inventory and the waste associated with unsold products.
Our Shirts
Sustainability starts from having a quality product. This is a heavyweight shirt, with taped neck and shoulders, double-stitching throughout, 100% ring-spun cotton, reinforced seams, and a garment-dye/wash process intended to minimize later shrinkage. This is important because it means that this product is manufactured to last, resist normal wear and tear, and be the kind of shirt that lasts for years.
Our Manufacturer uses a process which they say produces earth-friendly colors by using 3 times less water, taking 40% less process time, consuming less energy and requiring zero salt.
Our Printing
Our fulfillment partner, Printify, works with its production network on areas including materials, packaging, emissions, supplier standards and responsible sourcing. Printify also prioritizes in-country fulfillment where possible, helping reduce unnecessary shipping distance.
Ultimately, reports indicate that over 21% of all newly created garments go unsold each year - our process prevents unnecessary waste from heading to landfills
We're Not Perfect
No piece of apparel is impact-free. Making and shipping clothing requires raw materials, water, energy, packaging and transportation, and we don't want to pretend otherwise.
What we can do is make thoughtful choices: produce products only when they're ordered, choose durable garments from manufacturers working to reduce their environmental impact, and continue looking for better options as they become available.
